Day Seven: On the Road to Glasgow

This morning marked our last full day in Scotland. :( We got up fairly early and started driving to our final destination of Glasgow. We first stopped at a little church in Ballachulish.

After taking pictures of the church, we stopped in Glencoe to take some scenery pictures. It was soooo beautiful here. I don't think there is anyway that the pictures could do justice to what we saw. You will just have to go there yourself! One of Steve's favorite things was the burial cairn on the side of the road. The soil here is not great to dig in so they used to just pile the bodies and then place rocks all around them.

Arent these some great pictures of erosion???

The biggest thing about this area of Scotland is that you feel so small compared to all of the huge mountains!

After trying hard to capture the perfect picture, we took off to Glasgow. It was at this time that we had a little scare. There are NO gas stations (or so it seemed) on the way to Glasgow. I was sure we were going to have to get out and push. We stopped at this little hotel and asked at one point and thankfully she said that there was a gas station in six miles. Luckily, she was right because according to the car, we could have only driven about 20 more miles before running out of gas. The gas station we stopped at kind of reminded me of a Bucees...it was called The Green Welly Stop. A welly is a rainboot. I have never been so glad to see a gas station. Don't get me wrong....I am the world's worst at stopping for gas because I hate to pump gas, but I always know where the next gas station is. :)

As we got closer to Glasgow, we drove through Loch Lomond. This is a place I definitely want to go back to on our next trip to Scotland. There is an aquarium there that I would love to see and it is just a pretty area. Before we checked into our hotel and took our car back, we stopped in Paisley. Paisley is important to us because this is where Houston Kiltmakers is located. This is the store that made Steve's kilt. We tried to find it on our own and ended up in Renfrew....pretty lost and hungry. Steve stopped at a local pub and they informed us that it was actually in Paisley so we had to go back where we had come from. We did stop and eat McDonalds for lunch. There was a cute little Disney like clock tower in Renfrow that we liked and a pretty church in Paisley. This was the biggest Baptist church in Scotland. It wasn't opened or we would have gone in and explored. While at Houston Kiltmakers, they measured us....I will soon be getting a skirt and Steve will soon be getting trousers...both made out of the Baird tartan. I can't wait. :) It will be very cute with my hat and scarf! We plan to wear the one day at school....I think the kids will love it!!!  The other fun thing we found in Paisley was an Alamo Bar...wish we could have stopped!

Once we visited with the Houston Kiltmakers, we checked into our hotel and then took the car back to the airport. I was actually pretty relieved to drop off the car. I definitely would recommend renting a car but it is pretty nervewracking for sure....we took a bus back to the hotel and ate dinner at a pub in Glasgow before getting ready for bed. We were sad to leave Scotland although we did decide that we had no desire to go back to Glasgow. We have already made our list of where we will be sure to go on our next trip. We'd like to bring the kids, but they aren't near old enough to do all of the walking....Logan maybe but definitely not Braden and Nolan! We will let them grow up a little....

So, friends, that was our honeymoon. We had the time of our lives and will remember the trip forever. Thank you to all of you who so generously and graciously gave us gifts to allow us to take this trip. We love you!
